AirPlans for East Asia FAQ
Does AirPlans offer unlimited data eSIM for East Asia?
AirPlans does not provide a true unlimited‑data eSIM for East Asia. The plans that carry “Unlimited” in their names—such as Global Unlimited 1 Day, Global Unlimited 3 Days, and Global Unlimited 7 Days—are limited to 1 GB of high‑speed data per day; after that threshold the speed drops to 512 kbps (or 1280 kbps for “Essential” variants). For travelers who need more data without the speed reduction, AirPlans offers fixed high‑data plans such as Global ‑ Light 100GB 90 days or Global ‑ Light 50GB 90 days, which provide a larger, capped data allowance over a longer validity period.
Does AirPlans offer East Asia eSIM with phone number and SMS?
AirPlans does not offer eSIM plans for East Asia that include a phone number or SMS capability. The provider’s East Asia offerings are data‑only, so travelers can use data‑dependent VoIP services such as WhatsApp, Telegram, or iMessage for calls and messaging. Because some destinations in East Asia may block or restrict access to these apps, it is advisable to verify availability before purchasing.
What countries are covered by AirPlans's eSIM plans in East Asia?
AirPlans offers three eSIM plans that include East Asian countries: the Global (120+ areas) plan covers China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Macau, and Taiwan; the Global Unlimited plan covers China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan; and the Global − Light plan covers Hong Kong, South Korea, Macau, and Taiwan.
