Lumbus eSIM Data Plans for South Africa

Lumbus does not provide a truly unlimited data eSIM for South Africa. All of the South Africa “Unlimited” plans listed have a fixed daily allowance of 3 GB of high‑speed data; after the daily quota is reached the speed drops to 1000 kbps. The plan’s name is misleading in that sense, and the provider notes confirm that the data is not unlimited.

For travelers who need larger amounts of data without a speed reduction, Lumbus offers fixed data plans. Examples include a 20 GB plan valid for 30 days or a 10 GB plan also valid for 30 days. These plans give a generous data allowance at full speed for the specified validity period and may be more cost‑effective for most users than the daily‑cap “Unlimited” option.

Lumbus does not offer any South Africa eSIM plans that include a local phone number or SMS capability. Only data‑only eSIMs are available from the provider. Travelers who need voice or messaging can rely on VoIP applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, or iMessage through the data connection, though access to these apps must be verified for the destination.

Lumbus offers 10 single‑country plans and 16 multi‑country plans for South Africa. The plans range in price from about $3.99 to $140.99 and provide data caps between 1 GB and 20 GB. Some plans are fixed‑data packages, giving a set amount of data for the entire validity period, while others use a daily data cap that limits the amount of data you can use each day. The validity of the plans can vary from a single day up to a full year.
