Find the best eSIM for Syria

Nine travel eSIM providers offer 31 prepaid data plans in Syria, giving travelers a range of options – while the number of plans is somewhat limited, a suitable plan can still be found for most needs.

Currently, there are no unlimited data eSIM plans available for Syria. Travelers heading to Syria should estimate their anticipated data usage based on planned activities like web browsing, social media, or using maps. It’s advisable to select a plan with a data allowance that comfortably covers these needs to avoid potential overage charges or service interruptions.

Syria's mobile telecommunications sector is served by three primary Mobile Network Operators (MNOs):

• Syriatel: Established in 2000, Syriatel is one of Syria's leading mobile operators, offering GSM, 3G, and 4G/LTE services.

• MTN Syria: Formerly known as Areeba, MTN Syria provides GSM and 3.5G broadband 4G (LTE) services.

• Wafa Telecom: Granted a license in 2022, Wafa Telecom is the newest entrant in the Syrian mobile market, with exclusive rights to operate 5G services.

Currently, there are no significant Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) in Syria. Most travel eSIMs rely on the infrastructure provided by the major MNOs listed above.

Travel eSIM plans that include a phone number and SMS are available for Syria from Esimtofly, LinkeSIM and Orange Travel. All three providers use the dialing code +33, which is the code for France, so the phone number that is provided is not a local Syrian number. The plans support inbound and outbound voice calls and inbound and outbound SMS.

Prices for these plans start around $19.90 USD and can go up to $59.99 USD, with validity periods ranging from 30 to 31 days. Travelers who need local calling or texting in Syria can use these foreign numbers, or alternatively rely on data‑only eSIMs and VoIP applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram or iMessage, keeping in mind that some apps may be restricted in Syria.
