Easy setup, service is good for the most part, but randomly drop out at times.
Biggest problem to be aware of is that you get a European (Dutch/UK/France) IP address for your US SIM, which means many sites GEO block you. No possibility of ordering food, booking hotels etc. in many cases making the eSIM virtually useless for travel. Maya Mobile support says there is nothing they can do and that the EU IP address is a technical limitation.
Would not recommend.
I used it for a trip to Hawaii in February 2024 (3GB/5 days = 1,100 yen). I purchased the eSIM the day before departure, and I was able to connect to the internet within minutes after activating it at the arrival airport. Tethering should have been possible too.
Unlike GIGAGO, which I used during a trip to Taiwan and required the deletion of my usual profile in Japan and reconfiguration upon returning, Maya Mobile didn't need the deletion of any existing profiles. All I had to do was switch the mobile data to Maya in the device's settings screen. For reference, I used it with an iPad mini 6.
My usage was primarily for messaging with friends, LINE calls, internet and map searches, and I didn't use social media, so I only used about 1.5GB over 5 days.
I moved around from the airport to Waikiki to the Diamond Head area, and I didn't experience any connectivity issues—it was stress-free!
Being able to connect to the internet within minutes of activation at the airport, check my data usage on the dedicated website, receive an email notification when I had used half my data, and the option to purchase additional data if needed, made it very convenient. Highly recommended.
Satisfied with the service and quick activation.
During my stay in the USA, I experienced frustration and felt cheated by a company that did not activate the service I had already paid for. Then I tried Maya Mobile, and their activation was done within minutes. They also notified me when I had used 70% of the purchased plan. In short, I am very satisfied with the service provided and their efficiency in getting me connected.
Conclusion: Good service that I hope to hire for each of my trips to the USA.
Maya Mobile’s plans that use the word “Unlimited” actually provide a daily data allowance: 3 GB/day for the STANDARD tier and 5 GB/day for the MAX tier, with validities ranging from 5 days to 180 days. After the daily cap is reached, the connection speed typically falls to a reduced level, so these plans do not offer truly unlimited high‑speed data.
If a straight‑forward, non‑capped data quota is preferable, Maya Mobile offers fixed‑capacity plans such as the USA 100 GB packages, which deliver 100 GB of high‑speed data for periods of 5, 10, 15, 30, or 60 days. Choosing a fixed data plan can be more economical for travelers who need a large amount of data without daily restrictions.
Maya Mobile does not provide a United States of America eSIM that comes with a local phone number or SMS capability.
Only data‑only eSIMs are offered for travelers, and users can still communicate using VoIP applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram or iMessage over the data connection.
The available data does not specify how many single‑country or multi‑country data plans Maya Mobile offers for the United States of America. This detail would need to be checked directly on Maya Mobile’s own website or through the eSIMDB search function.
