Hungry eSIM eSIM Data Plans for Japan

Hungry eSIM does not provide a true unlimited data eSIM for Japan. The plans with “Unlimited” in their name actually contain a fixed amount of high‑speed data, ranging from 500 MB to 10 GB per day. Once the daily allowance is used, the speed is throttled to a reduced rate between 128 kbps and 1 Mbps, depending on the specific plan.

If higher capacity is needed, Hungry eSIM offers fixed‑data plans instead. For example, the Japan eSIM Data 30 Day / 50 GB plan costs $34 USD and the Japan eSIM Data 30 Day / 20 GB plan costs $16.40 USD. There are also 180‑day options and single‑day plans that provide up to 10 GB of data before the speed decreases. These fixed options can be more cost‑effective for travelers who require substantial data without the limitations of a throttled “unlimited” plan.

Hungry eSIM does not provide a Japan eSIM that includes a local phone number or SMS capability. Only data‑only plans are available for Japan. Travelers who need voice or text can rely on VoIP applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, or iMessage over the data connection, but not all destinations allow unrestricted access to these services. It is recommended that travelers confirm whether the apps they depend on are accessible in Japan before making a purchase.

Hungry eSIM offers 13 single‑country plans and 51 multi‑country plans for Japan. Prices range from $2.09 to $179.36, with data caps from 500 MB to 50 GB and validity periods from 1 to 365 days. Some plans include reduced speed options.
