I tested Ubigi (5G) and TravelKon (Docomo IIJ) (LTE only).
Both have Japan IP address.
But TravelKon is faster ping (45ms) instead of Ubigi (120ms) even on 5G.
TravelKon (Docomo IIJ) is recommended.
Was very happy with service. 5G phone connected at 5G. One of the few options in Japan that will do that. Most roaming services won't and a lot of other prepaid providers won't.
Service was 4G rather than 5G but speeds were perfectly fine, even for real-time navigation. The few low numbers recorded in speed tests were almost all at Narita Airport.
10 GB each turned out to be plenty for 9 days in Tokyo. We did connect our phones to the hotel's WiFi but probably didn't need to.
Works great! Good coverage (docomo network it seems), Japanese IP, and good ping times to Europe. Used with an iPhone XS on LTE. Attached Speedtest is from a train
It was great value for money for my trip to Japan. Very simple app.
I only regret one thing: not having known about it sooner!
Very poor experience. My data would be spotty at best, even with full bars. Certain websites would not load, sometimes Facebook and Instagram would not load. My email would only sometimes work. WhatsApp would seldomly send.
Not recommended.
Good & solid experience! Balance, refill & plans via the website! Good 4G data speeds in japan (15-20mbps)!
Ubigi does not offer unlimited data eSIM plans for Japan. The provider sells fixed‑data plans that include large allowances such as a 60GB plan valid for 30 days at a price of $49.00 or $66.00, and a 50GB plan for 30 days costing $55.00. These fixed plans can be more cost‑effective for most travelers; however, users who are extremely heavy data consumers may still find limited benefits from a capped plan.
Ubigi does not provide a Japan eSIM that includes a phone number or SMS capability. The plans they offer for Japan are data‑only, allowing high‑speed internet access but not traditional voice or text services. Travelers can use popular VoIP applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and iMessage over the data connection for calls and messaging.
Ubigi provides 16 single‑country data plans and 28 multi‑country plans that include Japan. The single‑country plans give a fixed amount of data for a set validity period, while the multi‑country plans allow usage across several countries, often with a daily data cap to limit usage on each day. The overall price range for Ubigi plans is approximately $2 to $199, and the data cap ranges from 500 MB up to 60 GB, giving travelers and business users a variety of options suitable for short trips or longer stays.
