I tested Ubigi (5G) and TravelKon (Docomo IIJ) (LTE only).
Both have Japan IP address.
But TravelKon is faster ping (45ms) instead of Ubigi (120ms) even on 5G.
TravelKon (Docomo IIJ) is recommended.
Was very happy with service. 5G phone connected at 5G. One of the few options in Japan that will do that. Most roaming services won't and a lot of other prepaid providers won't.
Service was 4G rather than 5G but speeds were perfectly fine, even for real-time navigation. The few low numbers recorded in speed tests were almost all at Narita Airport.
10 GB each turned out to be plenty for 9 days in Tokyo. We did connect our phones to the hotel's WiFi but probably didn't need to.
Works great! Good coverage (docomo network it seems), Japanese IP, and good ping times to Europe. Used with an iPhone XS on LTE. Attached Speedtest is from a train
It was great value for money for my trip to Japan. Very simple app.
I only regret one thing: not having known about it sooner!
Very poor experience. My data would be spotty at best, even with full bars. Certain websites would not load, sometimes Facebook and Instagram would not load. My email would only sometimes work. WhatsApp would seldomly send.
Not recommended.
Good & solid experience! Balance, refill & plans via the website! Good 4G data speeds in japan (15-20mbps)!
Ubigi does not offer any unlimited data eSIM plans for Japan. Travelers looking for high‑volume connectivity can choose from Ubigi’s fixed data plans, such as the 60GB/month plan for 30 days at $49.00 USD, the 60GB plan also for 30 days at $66.00 USD, or a 50GB plan for 30 days at $55.00 USD. These examples are not an exhaustive list, but they illustrate the large‑data options available. Selecting a fixed data plan may be more cost‑effective for most users unless an extremely heavy data user requires a truly unlimited option, which Ubigi does not currently provide.
Ubigi does not offer a Japan eSIM plan that includes a phone number or SMS capability. Only data‑only eSIMs are available for travellers in Japan, and users can rely on VoIP applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and iMessage to make calls and send messages over the data connection.
Ubigi provides a selection of plans that cover Japan, including 16 single‑country packages and 26 multi‑country offerings. The plans vary in price from about $2 to $240 and in data allowance from 500 MB up to 60 GB. Some packages offer a fixed data amount for the entire validity period, while others provide a daily data cap that limits the amount that can be used each day, giving travelers flexibility depending on their usage needs.
