In Hanoi and Da Nang city areas, the connection was slow and occasionally cut off, but I managed to use it somehow. However, around the Naman Retreat Hotel, it was almost unusable. In the end, I had to ask the hotel staff to guide me to a store where I could buy a local SIM card for travelers.
I purchased 10GB for 7 days, but I didn't even use 1GB.
Ubigi's eSIM plans for Vietnam really falls short for several reasons.
1. The connection keeps on dropping randomly. This is unacceptable when you need to call your family using WhatsApp, Viber, or Zalo, and you suddenly disconnect.
2. I was assigned a mainland Chinese IP address with a Singaporean DNS. This is also unacceptable due to privacy concerns and certain sites blacklisting my eSIM.
Eventually, I switched over to a Viettel eSIM from MobiMatter, and it worked flawlessly for the rest of my family trip to Vietnam. Would not recommend Ubigi for Vietnam.
Ubigi offers 6 single‑country data plans and 25 multi‑country plans for Vietnam. The single‑country options range in price from about $2 for 500 MB to $240 for 60 GB, while the multi‑country plans cover similar data caps from a few hundred megabytes to 60 GB at comparable prices. Single‑country plans provide a fixed data amount for a set validity period, whereas multi‑country plans allow the same data allocation to be used across several countries, including Vietnam.
Ubigi does not offer a true unlimited data plan for Vietnam. Travelers who need a large amount of data can instead choose from fixed‑data options; for example, a 60GB plan valid for 30 days costs $59, and a 60GB plan valid for 900 days costs $78. Because these high‑cap plans cover most typical usage, they can be a more cost‑effective choice unless a user requires consumption well beyond the plans’ limits.
