“Nice”
“The price is a bit high but the network worked perfectly and the speeds were good. Also the app they have works very well.”
“Much better than I expected for a travel eSIM. The Japan eSIM I bought from Airalo wasn't the cheapest, but latency was surprisingly good (below 40ms) even though the IP address was from USA, which probably means they are doing a local breakout. The speeds were good, more than sufficient for travel needs, and the coverage was also satisfactory.
It would have been the perfect option if the price were cheaper.”
“Great experience. Got the eSIM in a sale. Activated while still at home, immediately got connection after deactivation of air plane mode. Speed was good, coverage OK. One downside: location was sometimes detected as Singapore, which was not always great (Microsoft send me a lot of warnings because it was routed through SingTel Mobile in Singapore). ”
“Very slow even with excellent signal strength (4G, iPhone XS), unusable even for maps and messaging. Very high ping times (600ms+). Support is very slow as well and did not fix the issue nor provide a refund.”
“Extremely poor support that doesn’t respond to any help after 24 hours.
Paid and activated the sim but couldn’t get any internet connection (despite successfully connected to SoftBank 3G).
I’ve checked many times that apn and roaming is enabled. And re started my phone multiple times.
Issue was never resolved and Airalo support was non existent. ”
“Showing not active all the time, can’t use map, checked settings, trouble shooting, everything is fine, three people bought, nobody’s eSIM works ”
“Horrible speed across the entirety of Japan, feels lile youre locked in 2G/Edge. Tried multiple reboots, changed speed profile, tried different networks, it all is of an incredible poor quality. Not worth your money. Switched to another leading eSim provider, night and day! I now can finally browse.”
“This is my second time using Airalo in Japan. It works okay but it seems the carrier switching doesn't work perfectly. When that happens I just have to turn on -> off flight mode which is a bit annoying but not too big of a deal.
It connected to au (KDDI) 4G most of the time, occasionally docomo (NTT).
The speed is decent but it's roaming via Singapore so there is a certain latency for sure.
The screenshot attached is the one I did at Narita airport.”
Airalo does not currently provide a truly unlimited data eSIM for Japan. The plans marketed as “Unlimited” give a daily allowance of 3GB and after that limit, the data is throttled to 1000 kbps. These plans are therefore not unlimited in the sense of offering high‑speed data without limits.
Travelers who need more high‑speed data can choose from fixed‑cap plans. For example, the 100 GB plan is valid for 180 days and costs $89, while the 50 GB plan is valid for 30 days at $59. Such fixed plans typically provide a higher overall data allowance and may be more cost‑effective unless a user is an extremely heavy data consumer.
Airalo does not provide a Japan eSIM plan that includes a local phone number with voice call or SMS capabilities. All Japan eSIM offerings from Airalo are data‐only, enabling internet connectivity.
Travelers who need voice and messaging can still use VoIP applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, or iMessage over the data connection, which works without a traditional phone number or SMS service.
Airalo offers 17 single‑country eSIM plans and 40 multi‑country plans that include Japan. These plans cover a price range from roughly $4 to $89, data caps from 1 GB to 100 GB, and validity periods spanning 3 days to 365 days. Plans are grouped into fixed‑data and daily‑cap types: fixed‑data plans provide a set amount of data for the entire validity period, while daily‑cap plans reset each day, which can be advantageous for short stays.
