Nice
The price is a bit high but the network worked perfectly and the speeds were good. Also the app they have works very well.
Much better than I expected for a travel eSIM. The Japan eSIM I bought from Airalo wasn't the cheapest, but latency was surprisingly good (below 40ms) even though the IP address was from USA, which probably means they are doing a local breakout. The speeds were good, more than sufficient for travel needs, and the coverage was also satisfactory.
It would have been the perfect option if the price were cheaper.
Great experience. Got the eSIM in a sale. Activated while still at home, immediately got connection after deactivation of air plane mode. Speed was good, coverage OK. One downside: location was sometimes detected as Singapore, which was not always great (Microsoft send me a lot of warnings because it was routed through SingTel Mobile in Singapore).
Very slow even with excellent signal strength (4G, iPhone XS), unusable even for maps and messaging. Very high ping times (600ms+). Support is very slow as well and did not fix the issue nor provide a refund.
Extremely poor support that doesn’t respond to any help after 24 hours.
Paid and activated the sim but couldn’t get any internet connection (despite successfully connected to SoftBank 3G).
I’ve checked many times that apn and roaming is enabled. And re started my phone multiple times.
Issue was never resolved and Airalo support was non existent.
Showing not active all the time, can’t use map, checked settings, trouble shooting, everything is fine, three people bought, nobody’s eSIM works
Horrible speed across the entirety of Japan, feels lile youre locked in 2G/Edge. Tried multiple reboots, changed speed profile, tried different networks, it all is of an incredible poor quality. Not worth your money. Switched to another leading eSim provider, night and day! I now can finally browse.
This is my second time using Airalo in Japan. It works okay but it seems the carrier switching doesn't work perfectly. When that happens I just have to turn on -> off flight mode which is a bit annoying but not too big of a deal.
It connected to au (KDDI) 4G most of the time, occasionally docomo (NTT).
The speed is decent but it's roaming via Singapore so there is a certain latency for sure.
The screenshot attached is the one I did at Narita airport.
Airalo does not provide a true unlimited data eSIM for Japan. The plans that carry “Unlimited” in their name, such as Moshi Moshi – Unlimited, have a fixed data quota of 3 GB per day; after this limit the speed is throttled to 1000 kbps. Travelers who need more data without daily limits can choose one of Airalo’s high‑capacity fixed‑data plans instead. For example, Moshi Moshi – 20 GB is valid for 15 or 30 days, and Asialink – 50 GB offers 50 GB for 90 days. These plans provide a larger data allowance and may be more cost‑effective unless an extremely heavy data user expects to stay connected for many days.
Airalo does not provide any Japan eSIM plans that include a phone number or SMS capability. All of its eSIMs for Japan are data‑only. However, travelers can still use voice and messaging through VoIP applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram and iMessage, which operate over the data connection.
Airalo offers 17 single‑country data plans and 20 multi‑country plans that include Japan. Across both categories the price ranges from about $4 to $185, while data caps span from 1 GB up to 100 GB. Validity periods vary from 3 days to a full year. The provider distinguishes between daily data‑cap plans, where the data allowance resets each day (6 such plans), and fixed‑data‑cap plans that let you use a lump sum of data over the validity period (31 plans). These options give travelers flexibility depending on the length of their stay and data‑usage needs.
