The price is a bit high but the network worked perfectly and the speeds were good. Also the app they have works very well.
Much better than I expected for a travel eSIM. The Japan eSIM I bought from Airalo wasn't the cheapest, but latency was surprisingly good (below 40ms) even though the IP address was from USA, which probably means they are doing a local breakout. The speeds were good, more than sufficient for travel needs, and the coverage was also satisfactory.
It would have been the perfect option if the price were cheaper.
Great experience. Got the eSIM in a sale. Activated while still at home, immediately got connection after deactivation of air plane mode. Speed was good, coverage OK. One downside: location was sometimes detected as Singapore, which was not always great (Microsoft send me a lot of warnings because it was routed through SingTel Mobile in Singapore).
Very slow even with excellent signal strength (4G, iPhone XS), unusable even for maps and messaging. Very high ping times (600ms+). Support is very slow as well and did not fix the issue nor provide a refund.
Extremely poor support that doesn’t respond to any help after 24 hours.
Paid and activated the sim but couldn’t get any internet connection (despite successfully connected to SoftBank 3G).
I’ve checked many times that apn and roaming is enabled. And re started my phone multiple times.
Issue was never resolved and Airalo support was non existent.
Showing not active all the time, can’t use map, checked settings, trouble shooting, everything is fine, three people bought, nobody’s eSIM works
Horrible speed across the entirety of Japan, feels lile youre locked in 2G/Edge. Tried multiple reboots, changed speed profile, tried different networks, it all is of an incredible poor quality. Not worth your money. Switched to another leading eSim provider, night and day! I now can finally browse.
This is my second time using Airalo in Japan. It works okay but it seems the carrier switching doesn't work perfectly. When that happens I just have to turn on -> off flight mode which is a bit annoying but not too big of a deal.
It connected to au (KDDI) 4G most of the time, occasionally docomo (NTT).
The speed is decent but it's roaming via Singapore so there is a certain latency for sure.
The screenshot attached is the one I did at Narita airport.
Bought an eSim ASIA with Airalo and find on 1 day before departure that Japan is no longer part of the 13 country that the eSim cover when I purchase it (now 12 - Japan has been removed).
No email or any type of warning from Airalo and not able to find support. Check how you get support before you buy anything.
Airalo does not provide a true unlimited data eSIM for Japan. The only plan marketed as “Unlimited” – Moshi Moshi ‑ Unlimited – delivers 3 GB per day and then throttles speed to 1000 kbps after the daily cap is reached. For travelers who need more data without a daily upper bound, Airalo’s fixed‑data plans are available. Examples include the 100 GB plan for 180 days and the 50 GB plan for 90 days, which offer higher data allowances at a flat price and can be more economical for heavy data users.
Airalo does not provide eSIM plans for Japan that include a phone number or SMS functionality. All eSIMs available for Japan from Airalo are data‑only, meaning that they supply internet bandwidth but do not offer native voice calling or text messaging services. Travelers who need to communicate can use internet‑based applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, or iMessage, which operate over the data connection supplied by the eSIM.
Airalo offers seven single‑country data plans covering Japan, and it also supplies 20 multi‑country plans that include Japan in their coverage. The single‑country plans vary in price from roughly $4.50 to about $185 and include data caps from 1 GB up to 100 GB, with validity periods ranging between 7 and 365 days. In addition, the provider offers a mix of different plan types: one option limits data on a daily basis, while the majority of plans offer a fixed amount of data for the entire validity period. This combination gives travelers the flexibility to choose a plan that best suits short‑term uses or longer stays.
